Local SEO: getting your business on Google Maps in Tunis, Sfax or Sousse

When someone searches “restaurant near me” or “dentist Sfax”, the map answers first. Here is how to claim your spot.

For a restaurant, clinic, showroom or agency, the most valuable searches are local: “optician Lac 2”, “gym Sousse”, “air conditioner repair Sfax”. For these queries, Google often shows a map with a handful of businesses before the regular results. Being in that block means reaching customers who are ready to visit or call.

The good news: local SEO is one of the most accessible growth levers for a Tunisian SME, as long as you are thorough.

Step 1: claim and complete your Google Business Profile

Everything starts with your Google Business Profile (formerly Google My Business). Claim it, get it verified, then fill in absolutely everything:

  • Exact business name, with no keywords artificially added
  • A precise primary category, then relevant secondary ones
  • Verified address and map pin (addresses in Tunisia can be approximate, so place the pin carefully)
  • Up-to-date opening hours, including Ramadan and public holidays
  • Phone number, website and WhatsApp link where possible
  • Real photos: storefront, interior, team, products

A complete profile builds trust with both users and Google.

Step 2: keep your information consistent

Google cross-checks what it finds across the web. Your name, address and phone number should be identical everywhere: website, Facebook page, directories, booking platforms. An old address forgotten in a directory can create doubt.

Step 3: reviews, your strongest asset

Reviews matter both for ranking and for the customer’s decision. Ask for them consistently and at the right moment: after a successful service, through a QR code at the counter or a link sent on WhatsApp. Reply to every review, including negative ones, calmly and professionally. A well-written reply often reassures more than a perfect score.

Step 4: a website that talks about your city

Your website reinforces your profile. Clearly mention your city and the neighbourhoods you serve, embed a map, and create one page per location if you have several. Think about languages too: many local searches happen in Arabic or French, sometimes with varied spellings.

Step 5: keep the profile alive

Regularly post updates, offers or new photos. Answer the questions people ask on your profile. An active profile shows that the business is open and attentive.

What to avoid

  • Creating several profiles for the same location
  • Stuffing the business name with keywords
  • Buying fake reviews: it breaks Google’s rules and can get your profile suspended
